My Two Takeaways of Reading the book <The Millionaire Fastlane>
1. Process not events would lead you to success
When I read (heard) this statement, a light bulb went off in my mind. For years, I have been hoping one day I can win a lottery, and naively think it would put the financial dependency on my job to an end so I can be freed from life to focus on doing things that really matter to me the most. The initial problem was I had never bought those lottery tickets on a regular basis, whether it was laziness or forgetfulness, who knows. But last year I thought I got a solution which was to get a multiple-draw Lotto Max, so that way I am always in the game. After reading the subject book, I now know this is not it. Not only the odds of winning is so low, but also data has shown that if you don’t have a process of managing your wealth, no matter how much or how little you start with, the outcome will never be real financial independence. And in a grand scheme of things, such rule, I believe can be applied towards all aspects of life, whether it is to manage a business, career, or a relationship. Like Charles R. Swindon once said “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”.
2. Become rich faster doesn’t mean become rick easily
When I started this book, I had been questioning about the quality and integrity of the author until I managed to go through the first 18 chapters. Frankly, I thought MJ DeMarco was arrogant and his journey of become wealthy was a result of pure luck and cannot be duplicated. I changed my mind when he started talking about the obstacles and the process of becoming rich was never easy. The process was gradually built and revisited on an ongoing basis using his life experience and rich knowledge. He has successfully shifted my perspective of wealth from a slow lane thinker to a fast lane one, and I am sure he has overturned many of the readers like myself. Another new learning of myself after reading this book was that when comes to wealth, besides money, more significantly, I value TIME as my #1 wealth. What would that new belief lead me to, I can’t wait to find out.
